through war and peace
I just spent an hour battling with my computer trying to get it work. Here's a sweat-blood-and-guts blow-by-blow account of the battle.

Alright first thing i do is to turn it on. Nothing shows up on the monitor. Now this happens rather frequently. I attempt my usual remedy, that it to get down and unplug/replug the monitor cable, repeating until success is achieved. However this didn't work too. Hmm, not to fear, I'm used it to it. My next course of action is to open up the cpu. I do it so often i've got a screwdriver and wrench lying on my table. Alright so i open up the cpu and fiddle with the graphics card. Not that the graphics card is causing the problems..it just seems to be the easier thing to play around with. So i'd take it out, maybe blow some dust off it and put it back. I'd replug the monitor cable and normally, the com would start working.

And it does! Hooray. Oh wait, i celebrated too early. Don't count your chickens before they hatch people. Cos my com started up till i could even see my desktop. and then WHAM! I get the blue screen of death and i gotta restart. Alright now i'm pissed. When the com restarts i get this 'windows did not start up properly' screen and i've got 3 choices:

Start in Safe Mode
Start using your most recent configurations that worked
Start Windows normally

Behind Door number 1 i get a long list of stuff thats loading and suddenly bang the com restarts and i'm back to square one.

Behind Door number 2, i get an instant portal to be transported right back to reboot land, no questions asked.

And for the 3rd option, i am at least blessed with the windows logo and the blue bar below it, but after 5 seconds.. ..you guessed it.. the damn thing restarts again.

No more mister nice guy. I start banging on the cpu in frustration. *bang* Why *bang* won't you *bang* start?!!! *bang*bang*bang*

Okay don't think i'm crazy. The banging has worked before. I stress before cos it didnt work this time. I figured that i needed a new strategy. You know how people rock a baby to sleep? Well i started rocking the computer quite viciously, making sure its contents got a thorough jolt. This time, something happened. And it wasn't entirely good. I got this message: "IOS loading failed. Insert floppy disk." I was like whoa that's not good. Floppies are ancient. If i need em then i must be in some deep shit. Anyway, i rebooted and hoped for the best. Thankfully, the floppy message went away but it was replaced by: "An error has occured. windowssystemsystem32someobscurefilename was not found. Please insert windows CD for system recovery." Man, that sucked. The physical abuse of the cpu actually broke my windows? Damn. Anyway, i checked the innards of the cpu to see what was up.

Horror of horrors, to my horrible horror i found that there were some dangling wires inside. Something had been disconnected. Well i didn't know where the wires were supposed to be plugged into so i just left em alone. I guess that having em unplugged cant be that bad cos the com didnt work when they were plugged in anyway haha. I'm close to giving up by now. I just sighed and got ready to throw in the towel. But then.. i restarted the computer one last time(for luck) and all was fine! The fact that i'm typing this entry now is proof of that..woohoo! I don't know what happened and i don't really wanna know haha. my com works and that's all that matters. it probably won't last another round of 'fighting' like this though, its on its last legs haha.

wow this must be my longest entry ever. amazing what rage can fuel ya to do haha
